Job Description

Business Development Manager (Steelwork & Structures)
Location: Field-based (London & South East)
Package: c.£70,000 Base + "High-Yield" Bonus + Car Allowance/EV + Benefits
The Company: Employee-Owned Structural Steel Leader
The Opportunity
We are currently partnering with one of the UK’s most prestigious structural steelwork contractors to find a commercially sharp Business Development Manager. This is a rare chance to join an employee-owned business where you aren’t just a number—you are a stakeholder in the company's annual profit-sharing and long-term success.
The Role
We are looking for a "Technical Closer." You will be the face of the business across London and the South East, targeting high-value steelwork packages (Commercial, Infrastructure, and Energy). This role is about more than just finding leads; it’s about using your technical expertise to influence the pre-tender stage and secure the "right" kind of work for their world-class fabrication facility.
The Ideal Candidate (Estimating Background)
The "sweet spot" for this role is someone who has spent time in Estimating or Pre-ConstructionWe need a BDM who can sit down with a Tier 1 contractor, look at a complex drawing, and talk intelligently about value engineering, connection design, and site logistics.
  • Network: You should have an active "little black book" of contacts within the London and SE Main Contractor market.
  • Technical Literacy: Ability to understand BQs and structural complexities is essential.
  • The Closer: You enjoy the chase of a multi-million-pound contract and have the commercial grit to see it through to a win.
The Rewards
  • Base Salary: Around £70,000 (negotiable based on your specific track record).
  • Bonus Scheme: This is where the role stands out. It’s a very rich, results-driven scheme designed to significantly reward those who secure high-margin, high-quality projects.
  • Ownership: Participation in the Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) profit-sharing schemes.
  • Autonomy: You’ll have the freedom to manage your territory as your own business, backed by a firm that operates to the highest industry standards and technical certifications.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives are valued. Our client believes that a variety of backgrounds and experiences fuels innovation in the construction industry. We welcome applications from all individuals regardless of race, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, or religion, and we are dedicated to providing a recruitment process that is fair, accessible, and transparent for all.
