Our client is a leading contractor in the UK gas industry, delivering high pressure gas infrastructure upgrades and diversion projects for major gas asset owners including National Gas, Cadent, Northern Gas Networks, SGN, and Wales & West Utilities. As we continue to expand, we are seeking an experienced Bid Writer - Estimator to support our business development and work on securing large new gas contracts and maintaining our reputation for high standards and successful delivery.

Role Overview

You will be responsible for the end-to-end preparation of tender submissions, ensuring they are accurate, competitive, and compliant with client requirements. This role requires a combination of commercial awareness, technical understanding, and programme management expertise to develop detailed high-quality bid proposals.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing; Comprehensive tender return packages, including Project Execution Statements Detailed cost breakdowns Structured work programmes.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and write compelling bid proposals, ensuring clarity, compliance, and alignment with client expectations. · Develop and compile tender return packages, including Project Execution Statements, risk assessments, and technical methodology. · Collaborate with technical, commercial, and operational teams to ensure the bid reflects project feasibility and best practices. · Review and interpret client specifications, identifying key deliverables and submission requirements. Estimating & Commercial Analysis · Develop detailed cost estimates for materials, labour, subcontractors, and other project-related expenses. · Produce commercial breakdowns ensuring full transparency and alignment with contract conditions. · Analyse historical cost data and market trends to enhance the accuracy of pricing strategies. · Identify potential risks and ensure appropriate contingencies are included in cost proposals.

Required Skills & Experience

· Proven experience in bid writing and estimating, ideally within the UK gas industry, utilities, or civil engineering sector.
· Strong understanding of project planning, cost estimation, and tender preparation processes.
· Experience in producing Project Execution Statements, cost breakdowns, and work programmes.
· Proficiency in estimating tools and planning software (e.g., MS Excel, Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar).
· Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to develop competitive cost models and pricing strategies.
· Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously

Desirable Qualifications & Experience
· Degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Business, or a related discipline.
· Experience working with NEC contracts and frameworks.
· Knowledge of CDM Regulations and health & safety & technical standards in the gas sector.
