Senior Accountant

3-Month Contract | Potential for Permanent

Optimize Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join an established business in Laois on an initial 3-month contract, with the potential for a permanent position.

This is a broad and hands-on senior accounting role, offering the opportunity to take ownership of financial reporting, management accounts, compliance, audit preparation, stock and production accounting, and internal financial controls.

Key Responsibilities

• Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate monthly management accounts, P&L, balance sheets, cash-flow reports and financial forecasts.
• P&L Analysis: Analyse financial performance against budgets, forecasts and prior periods, investigate variances and provide clear insights to senior management.
• Year-End & Audit: Lead the preparation for year-end accounts and external audits, including reconciliations, audit schedules, supporting documentation and resolution of audit queries.
• Statutory & Directors’ Reporting: Assist with the preparation and finalisation of statutory accounts and the annual Directors’ Report, ensuring compliance with Irish company and reporting requirements.
• Cash Flow & Working Capital: Monitor cash flow, debtors, creditors and working capital, identifying risks and opportunities for improved financial performance.
• FSC Compliance: Maintain accurate FSC Chain of Custody records, ensure product traceability and support FSC audits and certification requirements.
• VAT, PAYE & Tax Compliance: Prepare and reconcile VAT and payroll-related returns, monitor Revenue deadlines and ensure ongoing tax compliance.
• Financial Controls: Maintain and review internal financial controls across purchasing, sales, payroll and payments, identifying risks and recommending improvements.
• Business Partnering: Work closely with senior management, production, purchasing, external accountants and auditors to provide accurate financial information and support commercial decision-making.

Skills & Experience Required

• Relevant qualification in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
• Strong experience in financial accounting and management accounts and working on them independently.
• Proven experience preparing and analysing Profit & Loss accounts.
• Strong understanding of balance sheets, cash flow and financial controls.
• Excellent Excel and financial reporting skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Ability to work independently, manage deadlines and take ownership of key accounting processes.
