Optimize Recruitment is partnering with a well-established main contractor on a significant construction and refurbishment project in Portlaoise.

The project involves the delivery of a new three-storey office development within a historic setting, together with the extensive refurbishment, alteration, and partial reconstruction of several existing structures.

Works also include the replacement of outdated facilities with a modern, purpose-built building designed to meet the operational requirements of the end user.

This is a high-profile project that combines new-build construction with the careful redevelopment of an existing site.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the day-to-day delivery of site operations, ensuring construction activities progress in line with project schedules and targets.
• Carry out setting out duties and provide technical guidance to site personnel throughout all phases of construction.
• Review construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation to ensure works are delivered accurately and efficiently.
• Monitor workmanship and materials on site, ensuring compliance with quality standards and project requirements.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and the wider project team to maintain smooth project delivery.
• Track progress against programme milestones, identifying potential issues and assisting in implementing practical solutions.
• Maintain accurate records of site activities, inspections, measurements, and completed works.
• Support the implementation of health and safety procedures and promote a strong safety culture across the site.
• Assist with quality assurance processes, inspections, BCAR compliance, and project close-out requirements.
• Attend and contribute to site meetings, providing updates on progress, technical matters, and resource planning.
• Address engineering and construction challenges as they arise, ensuring minimal disruption to project timelines.
• Support the efficient management of labour, materials, and plant to maximise productivity and site performance.

Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related construction discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Site Engineer or similar role within the construction industry.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, site practices, and current building regulations.
• Experience interpreting technical drawings and translating design information into practical site solutions.
• Proficiency in setting out and the use of surveying equipment.
• Excellent organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across project teams.
• Problem-solving mindset with the confidence to make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated commitment to delivering projects safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Full driving licence and authorisation to work in Ireland.
