Junior Estimator – Main Contractor
Location: Galway

Optimize Recruitment, working closely with our client, are seeking a Junior Estimator to join a well-established Irish main contractor based in Galway. This is a strong opportunity for someone at the early stages of their career to gain valuable experience within a busy pre-construction team, supporting the delivery of tenders across a wide range of building projects.

About the Role
This role will suit someone with a year’s experience who is looking to further develop within estimating. You will work alongside experienced estimators and internal departments, gaining exposure to tender analysis, cost planning, subcontractor engagement, and pricing across a diverse portfolio including commercial, fit-out, healthcare, educational, residential, and conservation projects. This is a well-supported position with clear long-term progression.

Responsibilities

• Review tender documentation, drawings, and project specifications
• Assist in take-offs and assessment of project scope
• Prepare enquiries for subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants
• Support cost analysis and comparison of received quotations
• Maintain and organise tender documentation throughout process
• Assist in pricing preliminaries for senior estimator review
• Contribute to completion and submission of tender returns
• Support preparation of project handover documentation
• Maintain estimating data and assist with reporting requirements
• Liaise with internal teams during bid preparation stages

Requirements

• Relevant third-level qualification in construction-related discipline
• 1+ year experience in estimating or construction environment, ideally within Ireland/UK
• Main contractor or site-based experience is advantageous
• Strong ability to read drawings, specifications, and reports
• Good communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Knowledge of estimating software is beneficial
