Job Description

MALE HEAD OF SERVICE / BUTLER WITH EXCEPTIONAL FORMAL SERVICE STANDARDS

Vessel: 60m+ Private Motor Yacht
Location: Mediterranean
Contract: Seasonal | Option to return each season
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: €6,500 - €7,500 DOE

We are currently seeking an experienced and polished Head of Service / Butler to join a highly private motor yacht for the summer season. This is a unique opportunity to join a traditional, British household-style program onboard a beautifully run vessel that operates very much as a “floating private residence” rather than a charter-style yacht.

The owners are quintessentially British, highly private, and extremely set in their ways, with long-standing systems and routines already firmly established. The successful candidate must therefore be adaptable, discreet, and confident in delivering exceptional service whilst seamlessly integrating into an already well-established onboard dynamic.

This role requires a true service professional who understands classic Butler-style service and can confidently run refined guest service alongside one other stewardess, and the owners travelling Butler. Service onboard is elegant and traditional in style, with a strong focus on silver service, platter presentation, and intuitive guest care rather than modern fine-dining theatrics.

The owners are typically onboard alone, creating a calm, refined, and highly personalised service environment. The vessel also regularly travels with an established household team, including a travelling Butler and the principal’s Lady-in-Waiting. The travelling Butler acts as the lead household representative and PA for the Principal ashore, however this role requires someone who can independently and confidently execute service to an exceptional standard at all times.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a service-driven candidate who enjoys traditional household-style service, thrives within structured environments, and understands the importance of discretion, teamwork, and adaptability.

Additional Details:

  • Seasonal position onboard a highly private, family-style yacht program.
  • Traditional British service culture with established household procedures already in place.
  • Owners typically cruise with a small number of guests and maintain a quiet, refined onboard atmosphere.
  • Guest trips are generally a total of up to 2 months during the summer season, occasionally extending to 3 months.
  • Interior setup operates more like a private estate team than a modern charter yacht.
  • Strong emphasis on professionalism, discretion, and maintaining a calm onboard environment.
  • Team-oriented program where all crew are expected to support one another regardless of rank.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver exceptional Butler-style service for the principals and their guests at all times.
  • Run formal and informal meal service alongside one additional stewardess.
  • Execute classic silver service and platter presentation service to impeccable standards.
  • Work closely with the travelling Butler and wider household and vessel team to ensure seamless guest experiences onboard.
  • Maintain high standards of table setting, presentation, and service flow in keeping with the owners’ preferences and traditions.
  • Adapt confidently to an already established structure and take direction professionally where required.
  • Assist with guest care and day-to-day interior operations with discretion and efficiency.
  • Support the wider interior team as needed, including assisting with crew mess and general interior duties when required.
  • Maintain a calm, polished, and positive presence onboard at all times.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Butler, Head of Service, Senior Steward, or similar guest-facing role onboard yachts or within UHNW private households.
  • Strong formal service background with confidence in silver service and traditional platter-style presentation.
  • Professional, polished, and discreet demeanour with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work within an established structure and follow direction seamlessly.
  • Team-player mentality with a hands-on approach to all areas of the interior operation.
  • Calm, adaptable personality suited to a quiet, highly private program.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining exceptional standards.
  • Fluent English essential.
  • Valid STCW and ENG1 required.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced service professional looking to join a refined and traditional private yacht program where discretion, professionalism, and exceptional service are genuinely valued.
