SENIOR ESTIMATOR

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead preconstruction estimating efforts for commercial construction projects throughout South Florida. This individual will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates, analyzing project plans and specifications, coordinating subcontractor pricing, and supporting project teams from initial bid through project award.

The ideal candidate has a strong general contracting background, excellent cost analysis skills, and the ability to manage multiple estimates while working closely with ownership, clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities

Lead estimating efforts for commercial construction projects, including new construction, renovations, and concrete restoration.

Review construction drawings, specifications, bid documents, and contract requirements to develop comprehensive cost estimates.

Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs, material pricing, labor estimates, equipment costs, and subcontractor scopes.

Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure competitive and complete pricing.

Develop conceptual estimates, schematic estimates, budget proposals, and final bid submissions.

Identify scope gaps, cost-saving opportunities, project risks, and potential value-engineering alternatives.

Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, architects, engineers, and owners throughout preconstruction.

Maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain reliable pricing and market intelligence.

Prepare bid summaries, cost breakdowns, pricing comparisons, and estimate documentation for management review.

Participate in bid reviews, project handoffs, and scope clarification meetings.

Monitor construction market conditions, material pricing, labor rates, and subcontractor availability.

Assist with negotiating subcontractor pricing and establishing project budgets following award.

Qualifications

5+ years of estimating experience with a commercial general contractor.

Proven experience preparing estimates for commercial construction projects from conceptual design through final bid.

Strong understanding of construction means and methods, labor productivity, material costs, and subcontractor pricing.

Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contractual documents.

Experience with quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, bid leveling, and value engineering.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and industry-standard estimating software.

Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.

Ability to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.

Ideal Candidate

A detail-oriented Senior Estimator who can independently manage the estimating process, develop competitive bids, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Experience with South Florida commercial construction, public-sector projects, renovations, concrete restoration, or occupied facilities is beneficial.
