PROJECT DIRECTOR – AVIATION

National Travel

Base Salary: $200,000–$250,000+ depending on experience, with travel compensation/per diem based on project assignment.

Position Overview:
Our client is seeking an experienced Project Director to lead large-scale aviation construction projects across the United States. This individual will provide executive oversight of project execution, financial performance, client relationships, and project team leadership from preconstruction through final completion.

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience managing complex airport construction programs, including terminal expansions, concourse renovations, airside improvements, and major aviation infrastructure projects. This role requires strong commercial judgment, strategic leadership, and the ability to deliver projects safely, on schedule, and within established financial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for large-scale aviation construction projects.

Oversee Project Managers, Superintendents, and project teams to ensure successful execution from preconstruction through closeout.

Maintain accountability for project budgets, financial forecasts, profitability, cash flow, and overall performance.

Establish project execution strategies, staffing plans, schedules, and risk management procedures.

Build and maintain relationships with airport authorities, owners, design teams, subcontractors, and other key stakeholders.

Lead contract negotiations, change management, procurement strategies, and resolution of complex project issues.

Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement corrective actions to protect schedule and financial performance.

Ensure compliance with safety standards, quality requirements, contract obligations, and applicable airport regulations.

Coordinate phased construction and operational requirements within active airport environments.

Lead executive-level project reviews and provide regular reporting on financial performance, schedule, risks, and milestones.

Support business development, client retention, and future aviation project opportunities.

Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement across project teams.

Qualifications

10+ years of experience in commercial construction, with significant leadership responsibility.

Demonstrated experience leading large-scale aviation or airport construction projects.

Previous experience as a Project Director, Senior Project Executive, Project Executive, or equivalent senior construction leader.

Proven ability to manage complex projects, large budgets, multiple project teams, and demanding schedules.

Strong financial management, contract administration, risk mitigation, and project controls experience.

Experience working directly with airport authorities and owners in active airport environments preferred.

Excellent leadership, negotiation, communication, and client relationship management skills.

Ability to travel nationally and provide onsite leadership throughout assigned project durations.
