Chemical Treatment Engineer - China/Suriname
Initially Based in Shanghai/Qidong, China (Transitioning to Paramaribo, Suriname)
12-Month Renewable Contract
Day Rate Basis
We are supporting a major offshore oil and gas development project in South America and are looking for an experienced Chemical Treatment Engineer to join the Field Operations team.
The project involves the development of a large deepwater offshore field utilising an FPSO and subsea production system, with a strong focus on operational readiness, production optimisation, asset integrity, and safe, efficient first oil delivery.
This is an exciting opportunity to be involved from the project execution phase through to production operations, supporting the development of chemical treatment and production chemistry strategies for a major offshore asset.
The Role
Reporting to the Method Production Lead, you will act as the technical focal point for all production chemistry and chemical treatment activities, supporting both project execution and future production operations.
You will work closely with FPSO teams, operations and maintenance contractors, chemical suppliers, vendors, and headquarters technical specialists to ensure effective chemical treatment programmes are established and optimised across topside and subsea systems.
Key Responsibilities
Project Execution Phase
- Support operational readiness activities ahead of first oil
- Assist with chemical supply tenders and contract management activities
- Support selection and qualification of production chemicals and associated testing programmes
- Act as the technical focal point for chemical suppliers and service providers
- Ensure chemicals required for commissioning and first fills are delivered in line with project schedules
- Support development of chemical stock management and logistics processes
- Review engineering documentation related to laboratory and chemical injection systems
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) with equipment vendors
- Support installation, commissioning, and start-up activities for laboratory and chemical injection packages
- Coordinate with FPSO contractors, vendors, and operations teams to ensure operational readiness
Production Operations Phase
- Act as the technical authority for production chemistry and laboratory activities
- Optimise topside and subsea chemical injection programmes
- Monitor laboratory activities and ensure compliance with operational standards
- Support troubleshooting and production optimisation initiatives
- Analyse maintenance and inspection results and implement treatment programme improvements
- Monitor chemical consumption and injection performance
- Develop chemical injection forecasts and support budget management activities
- Manage supplier performance and chemicals-related contracts
- Ensure chemical inventory management, QA/QC, and logistics activities are effectively controlled
- Support environmental compliance and chemical waste management activities
Candidate Profile
- Degree qualified in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or equivalent
- Minimum 510 years' experience within oil & gas production chemistry environments
- Strong FPSO project and operational experience
- Good understanding of:
- Production chemistry
- Chemical treatment programmes
- Flow assurance
- Offshore production systems
- Laboratory operations
- Experience working with subsea and topside production facilities
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities
- Fluent in English
- Dutch language skills would be advantageous
