WSR is recruiting for a Senior Sales Engineer for our reputable client in London.

Senior Sales Engineer – Public Sector / Government

Location: Remote, UK-based – with regular travel to customer sites
Salary: £90,000–£120,000 basic + 20% bonus + car allowance + extensive benefits

Are you an experienced Presales or Sales Engineer with a strong networking background and experience supporting Government or public sector customers?

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established global technology organisation operating across network performance, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure and resilience. Working closely with senior sales colleagues, you’ll provide the technical expertise behind complex customer opportunities, helping organisations understand how sophisticated technology solutions can address their operational, performance and security challenges.

This is a highly client-facing position, suited to someone who enjoys combining deep technical knowledge with the commercial side of presales and can build credibility with customers operating in complex and secure environments.

Senior Sales Engineer Key Responsibilities:

As Senior Sales Engineer, you’ll play an important role throughout the sales process, working alongside Account Managers to understand customer requirements, shape technical solutions and clearly demonstrate their value.

You’ll be responsible for:

• Leading technical discovery and supporting opportunities throughout the full sales cycle
• Understanding complex customer challenges and translating technical requirements into clear, commercially relevant solutions
• Delivering technical presentations, demonstrations and solution discussions
• Acting as a trusted technical advisor to Government and public sector customers
• Supporting Account Managers in developing new and existing customer opportunities
• Helping differentiate solutions through strong technical knowledge and compelling value propositions
• Building relationships with customers, systems integrators and service providers
• Supporting RFP and RFI responses and contributing to technical documentation
• Working closely with product and engineering teams, sharing customer and market feedback
• Identifying opportunities to expand existing customer relationships
• Supporting and mentoring other Sales Engineers where required
• Representing the business at customer meetings, industry events and other strategic engagements

The position is home-based; however, it involves significant customer interaction and regular UK travel, with client meetings potentially taking place several days each week. Candidates based in Central or Southern England would be particularly well placed for the territory.

Senior Sales Engineer Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

We’re looking for a technically strong presales professional who can communicate confidently with both technical and commercial audiences.

Ideally, you’ll have:

• 5+ years’ experience within IT, including at least 2 years within presales, network engineering or technical support
• Proven experience supporting UK Government or public sector customers
• Strong networking and network infrastructure knowledge
• Experience with routing, switching, gateways and associated network technologies
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, SNMP, NetFlow and VoIP
• Understanding of LAN/WAN environments and network architecture
• Knowledge of network security concepts and infrastructure design
• Experience with network performance, monitoring and fault management
• Working knowledge of Linux and Windows environments
• Exposure to cloud, virtualisation and software-defined networking technologies
• The ability to take complex technical information and communicate its commercial value clearly
• Strong presentation, communication and customer-facing skills
• Confidence working alongside senior sales professionals throughout complex sales cycles
• Willingness to travel regularly across the UK
• The ability to obtain UK Security Clearance; existing SC clearance would be advantageous

Relevant networking certifications such as CCNA, CCNP or CCIE would be beneficial, as would a technical degree or equivalent professional or military training.
