Job Description

TTM Healthcare Solutions is currently recruiting for a Medical Laboratory Aide to join a busy hospital laboratory team.

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:00

Purpose of the Post : To perform a range of support duties to the running of the Pathology Laboratory to ensure the smooth functioning of the laboratory service.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities :

To carry out the following duties in accordance with laboratory protocol:

  • Specimen reception and sorting / labelling of samples.
  • Initial processing of specimens as required.
  • Collection of samples from areas of the hospital as required.
  • Processing of Clinical Trials Samples for deep freezing and associated paperwork.
  • Delivery of supplies from the laboratory to care areas as required.
  • Collection and Removal of Clinical Waste from Laboratory to the designated external location.
  • Preparation of laboratory reagents and solutions.
  • Organisation of the sending out of samples to other locations
  • Uploading and distributing documentation of results from these locations.
  • Retrieval of any archived histology/cytology samples and documentation as required.
  • Maintenance of stocks.
  • Collection / delivery of post / paperwork between areas of the hospital as required.
  • Use of computer system when applicable.
  • Maintenance of filing system.
  • Ordering / collection of laboratory consumables from stores.
  • Dealing with telephone enquiries.
  • Photocopying / faxing as required.
  • Working in tandem with other staff to ensure an uninterrupted service to the laboratory during the working day.
  • Cleaning duties in laboratory areas where relevant.
  • Strict adherence to health and safety policy.
  • Assistance with retrieval of lab statistics
  • Assistance with preparation of posters, power point presentations as required.
  • Attendance at any relevant course as required.
  • The candidate must be prepared to work outside of normal working hours as dictated by the needs of the service.
  • To actively participate in both internal and external quality assurance schemes.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience working in a laboratory or healthcare environment is desirable.
  • Must be eligible to work in Ireland.
  • Good organisational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to follow laboratory procedures and protocols accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly when handling specimens and documentation.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Basic computer skills and confidence using computerised systems.
  • Understanding of the importance of confidentiality when dealing with patient and laboratory information.
  • Commitment to health and safety, infection prevention, and quality standards.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a busy environment and prioritise tasks appropriately.
