Working Pattern

  • Full-time permanent position
  • 4-day working week (9-hour shifts)
  • 1 in 4 weekend rota
  • Participation in duty night rota
  • Average 40 hours per week

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Head Veterinary Nurse (RVN) to lead a well-established nursing team within a busy, purpose-built small animal practice.

This role is ideal for a confident RVN with strong clinical experience and leadership ability, looking to take the next step in their career. You will be responsible for leading, supporting and developing the nursing team, while ensuring consistently high standards of patient care and client service.

You will play a key role in driving clinical excellence, mentoring colleagues, and maintaining a positive and collaborative working environment.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor and support a team of RVNs, student nurses and support staff
  • Encourage continuous professional development across the team
  • Foster a positive, collaborative and high-performing team culture
  • Support recruitment, training and performance management where required

Clinical & Operational Duties

  • Maintain high standards of clinical nursing care across all areas
  • Support the day-to-day running of the practice
  • Ensure adherence to clinical protocols and best practice standards
  • Work closely with the veterinary team to deliver exceptional patient care

Training & Development

  • Support and guide student veterinary nurses and junior team members
  • Drive clinical standards and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Participate in leadership training and development opportunities
