The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Veterinary Surgeon to join a progressive small animal practice in Essex.

This predominantly hospital-based position is ideally suited to a clinician with a strong interest in internal medicine and diagnostic imaging who is looking to take the next step in their career. The successful candidate will enjoy a varied and challenging caseload, managing both routine and complex medical presentations while working with advanced diagnostic equipment and modern clinical facilities.

The role offers an excellent balance of clinical autonomy and team support, making it ideal for a Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys independently working up cases while also benefiting from collaboration with experienced colleagues.

 

Clinical Environment

The practice is equipped with a comprehensive range of modern facilities, including:

  • In-house laboratory
  • Digital radiography
  • Advanced ultrasound equipment

  • Endoscopy

  • Dedicated hospital environment supporting complex case management

This excellent clinical setup enables the team to provide high-quality, evidence-based veterinary care and encourages the pursuit of advanced clinical interests.

 

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum of 4–5 years' experience in small animal practice
  • Strong interest and practical experience in internal medicine and diagnostic imaging
  • Medical or imaging Certificate holder, or currently working towards one (desirable)
  • Confident managing emergency and critical care cases
  • Comfortable working up complex medical cases independently
  • Competent in routine and advanced abdominal surgical procedures
  • Experience with laparoscopic surgery is advantageous but not essential
  • Flexible and adaptable, with occasional support across multiple sites when required

 

The Rota

  • Full-time position
  • 40 hours per week
