Large Animal Or Mixed Veterinary Surgeon- Powys
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Large or Mixed Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join a proudly independent, forward thinking practice in the stunning heart of Powys. This well-established 11 vet team offers a perfect blend of experience, collaboration, and community spirit with members ranging from recent graduates to those with over 25 years in practice. Whether you’re looking to expand your clinical skills, pursue a certificate, or explore new professional interests, this practice will support your growth every step of the way.
The caseload is wonderfully varied with approximately 50% large animal (mainly family run beef and sheep enterprises with a strong focus on preventative herd health), 40% small animal, and 10% equine work. Building lasting relationships with loyal clients and local farmers is at the heart of everything they do, and the team takes real pride in providing high quality, compassionate care across all species.
Flexibility and balance are key. The practice structures the week to allow a healthy mix between large and small animal duties, with clearly defined days for each. Large animal days are efficiently organised, with one vet handling ambulatory work, another managing clinic duties and emergencies, and a third focused on TB testing, supported by two dedicated ATT testers. The nursing team plays an active role too, with an RVN accompanying a vet on large animal duties daily.
The team recently moved into a stunning purpose built facility equipped with everything a modern mixed practice could need including two dedicated large animal consulting and surgical rooms, a large animal lab and prep area, digital X-ray, ultrasound, in-house lab, and more. Whether you’re an experienced vet, midway through your Vet GDP, or a recent graduate ready to dive into mixed or large animal practice, this is a fantastic opportunity to grow your career within a genuinely supportive, forward thinking team.
With breathtaking Welsh countryside as your daily backdrop, this is more than just a job, it’s a lifestyle that combines clinical variety, teamwork, and a true connection to the farming and rural community.
