Job Description

Veterinary Surgeon – Farm / Mixed with Farm Bias (Kilkenny)
Salary up to €65,000, dependent on experience

Enjoy a 4-day week and 40 days’ leave. Where herd health meets career growth – your next veterinary role starts here.

  • Enjoy an excellent work/life balance with a 4-day week option and 40 days’ leave.
  • Build your career with fully funded CPD and certificate-level support.
  • Be part of a friendly, collaborative team with regular clinical clubs and knowledge sharing.
  • Benefit from an attractive package, including vehicle, phone, expenses, and professional fees covered.
  • Take on an exciting farm-focused caseload in the heart of Ireland’s dairying region.

A well-established mixed practice in Kilkenny is seeking to expand its team with the addition of a motivated Farm or Mixed Animal Vet (farm bias preferred). The practice has been serving the local community for over 30 years and currently operates with a dedicated team of 6 full-time and 1 part-time vets. Approximately 80% of the caseload is farm animal work, with a particular emphasis on dairy, in an area with more than 40,000 dairy cows under care.

This role offers the chance to join a collaborative and supportive team, where herd health planning and in-depth investigations are a core part of the service. The position would particularly suit a certificate holder, or someone with a strong interest in herd health and ambitions to pursue further qualifications. Training and experience in AHI schemes will be looked on favourably.

The successful candidate will be joining a practice where teamwork and communication are highly valued, and where professional development is actively encouraged. A monthly clinical club fosters discussion, knowledge-sharing, and professional growth. Long-term career prospects are available for the right candidate.

What we’re looking for:

  • Registration with the VCI
  • At least 2 years’ experience in farm animal practice
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently

What’s on offer:

  • Salary up to €65,000 (depending on experience)
  • 4-day week option available
  • Generous package including vehicle, subsistence, and phone
  • 40 days’ leave (inclusive of annual leave, public holidays, and days off in lieu)
  • Fully funded CPD plan, with support up to certificate level
  • 1:7 rota for most of the year
  • VCI, VDS, and Veterinary Ireland fees paid

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your career within a progressive and supportive environment, while enjoying a healthy work/life balance.
