Part-Time Equine Veterinary Surgeon – Essex
Set in the heart of the Essex countryside, our client is an independent, small animal and equine RCVS-accredited Primary Care practice with Hospital status. They are currently seeking a confident equine veterinary surgeon to join their talented team on a part-time basis.
Situated in the beautiful county of Essex, the practice enjoys easy access to London and the M25. Independently owned since the 1980s, they have built a reputation for excellence, with clinicians encouraged to take charge of their cases while benefiting from the support of an experienced team that takes internal referrals for more complex cases.
The practice boasts state-of-the-art equipment, including ultrasound, digital x-ray, in-house laboratory facilities, ECG, endoscopy, and a hydrotherapy unit. Their extensive facilities include spacious kennels and a cattery, a large equine operating theatre, and well-equipped stables. As a BEVA Approved AI Centre, they offer a comprehensive range of stud and artificial insemination services.
You will be joining an exceptional team of veterinary professionals, including certificate holders in equine surgery, equine internal medicine, and stud medicine. One team member is currently undertaking an advanced practitioner certificate in dentistry, while another holds a European diploma in large animal surgery. You will also be supported by a dedicated team of veterinary nurses and administrative staff.
The ideal candidate will be a confident equine vet with 4-5 years of experience. You will be competent in basic surgery and medicine, and candidates with specialist skills or certificates will be considered. A motivated and passionate team player, you will have a personable and friendly attitude with a strong client focus. The ability to mentor interns would be a valuable asset.
The rota consists of 4-5 afternoon shifts per week, with a finish time of 5:30 pm and flexible start times. Weekend commitments are on a 1:8 rota (8 am – 5 pm) and are solely for emergencies, with no additional Saturday morning duties, as these are covered by the small animal team. There is also a 1:10 weeknight rota until 8 pm, after which phone duties are transferred to Vets Now. You will work no more than two bank holidays per year.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking and well-equipped practice in a stunning location. If you are interested in this role, don’t hesitate to get in touch to discuss it further.
