Veterinary Surgeon – Huddersfield
Are you a small animal vet with a passion for rehabilitation, pain management, or sports medicine? Are you ready to take the next step in your career?
Our client is seeking an experienced vet to join their supportive, seven-vet team at a well-established, RCVS-accredited small animal hospital in the historic town of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. This proudly independent veterinary group is committed to continuous improvement, combining cutting-edge training, state-of-the-art facilities, and advanced equipment with the warmth of traditional personal care. As the only independent veterinary group in Huddersfield, they operate a thriving multi-centre mixed practice with 44 vets and six surgeries across Huddersfield and South Halifax.
Their Animal Rehabilitation Centre, established in 2008, is dedicated to helping patients recover from surgery, manage arthritis and joint conditions, regain mobility after neurological or spinal issues, and improve overall fitness. The centre is fully equipped with two underwater treadmills, therapeutic ultrasound and laser units, and electrotherapy devices, including TSE, TENS, and NMES for pain relief and muscle maintenance, alongside a wide range of exercise equipment.
This role offers the perfect opportunity to balance first-opinion practice with a deeper exploration of rehabilitation, pain management, and sports medicine. Our client is committed to supporting your professional growth, encouraging your ambitions, and helping you achieve your career goals. You’ll be part of a knowledgeable team that includes certificate holders in diagnostic imaging, surgery, ophthalmology, and ECC, as well as vets undertaking postgraduate certificates and CertAVP qualifications. The practice also benefits from collaboration with local specialists and regular visits from Vet Practice Support for complex scans and echoes.
Our client values their team and are always looking to improve work-life balance; they recently changed their finish time from 7.30 pm to 6.30 pm. A full-time vet works a 4-day week (8.15 am - 6.15 pm), with typically just 1:4 Saturdays (9 am – 2 pm). All vets work one late shift (10.15 am - 8.15 pm) every two weeks and approximately 1:9 daytime weekends at their sister hospital. They have two vets working on weekends, so someone is always available to provide backup or to discuss cases. They have a dedicated 3-vet night team, so there are no routine nights for their day vets.
Huddersfield is a charming market town in West Yorkshire, offering a blend of rich history and stunning natural beauty. With the Pennines to the west and the wild, rugged landscapes of Marsden Moor nearby, outdoor enthusiasts can explore by foot, bike, paddleboard, or even take to the skies paragliding, a popular local pastime.
