Equine Veterinary Surgeon – North Hertfordshire
• Highly successful, independent equine veterinary practice in a stunning rural location
• Extensive facilities on offer with a full range of modern diagnostic equipment including an objective gait analysis system
• Purpose-built clinic with six stables, a surgical suite, a treatment room with stocks, and dedicated areas for lameness assessments
• Excellent scope for future career progression and even the possibility of ownership in the future
• Excellent salary of up to £65,000
Our client, an established independent equine veterinary practice with over 20 years of experience, is seeking a senior or experienced equine veterinary surgeon to join their dedicated team on a permanent basis. The practice is located in rural North Hertfordshire, close to a vibrant town known for its rich history, independent shops, inviting eateries, and a twice-weekly market. This location offers the perfect blend of rural tranquillity and modern conveniences.
The practice boasts extensive facilities that allow them to provide high-quality in-patient care, from routine procedures to more advanced treatments. In addition, they offer a comprehensive ambulatory service, equipped with a full range of mobile diagnostic equipment, ensuring that they can manage both routine appointments and emergency situations at any time, day or night.
As part of this team, you will work alongside 5.5 FTE vets, 2 RVNs, and 4 support staff, all committed to delivering exceptional care to a loyal client base. The practice's purpose-built clinic is well-equipped, featuring six stables, a surgical suite, a treatment room with stocks, and dedicated areas for lameness assessments. The clinic also houses a full range of modern diagnostic tools, including an objective gait analysis system.
This role is integral to the practice, providing routine, advanced, and emergency services. You will work alongside senior and associate veterinary surgeons, handling a diverse mix of cases involving leisure horses, sports horses, thoroughbreds, and occasionally, donkeys. Clinical cases in this role are varied and interesting, with opportunities to focus on your specific areas of interest. As part of an independent practice with its own facilities, you will have the freedom to work up cases independently, refer to external hospitals when necessary, or collaborate within the team.
The ideal candidate will be skilled in all areas of first opinion and ambulatory clinical work, with the ability to carry out more involved procedures such as poor performance/lameness diagnostics, internal medicine, minor surgery, dental work, anaesthesia, and pre-purchase examinations, or a combination of these. You will also have the opportunity to mentor less experienced veterinary surgeons and nurses, helping to develop their skills. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team are essential, and experience in stud work would be highly advantageous.
The practice offers significant opportunities for career development, including the potential to develop clinical or managerial skills towards a clinical director role. There is excellent scope for future career progression and even the possibility of ownership in the future.
This position is available on either a full or part-time basis, with a 1:5 out-of-hours rota. If you are interested in joining this fantastic practice and would like to learn more about the opportunity, please don’t hesitate to get in touch for a more detailed discussion.
