Part-Qualified Accountant

Optimize Recruitment is partnering with an established business operating within the construction and engineering sector to recruit a Part-Qualified Accountant.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional with 3+ years' experience who is currently working towards an ACA or ACCA qualification. The successful candidate will join a busy finance function and gain exposure across management accounts, project finance, cashflow, taxation and financial reporting.

Working closely with the wider finance team, commercial department and project management teams, your responsibilities will include:

• Preparation of quarterly management accounts and supporting schedules
• Bank reconciliations and weekly cashflow reporting
• Maintaining the fixed asset register
• Preparation of accruals and prepayments
• Work-in-progress calculations in accordance with FRS 102
• Management of invoicing and debtor collections
• Reviewing project financial performance against budgets and commercial expectations
• Creating new project codes in conjunction with the commercial/QS team
• Supporting VAT, RCT, CIS, payroll and other tax reconciliations
• Reviewing profit and loss performance and investigating variances
• Monitoring stock transfers and valuations
• Reviewing payroll information and allocating payroll costs across projects
• Working with commercial and project teams to ensure valuations and invoices are processed promptly
• Following up on outstanding invoices, payments and project valuations
• Supporting the preparation of year-end accounts and responding to audit queries
• Assisting with the development and improvement of financial controls, processes and reporting
• Providing additional financial analysis and reporting as required

The successful individual will have the following: 

• Relevant degree or business/accounting qualification
• Currently working towards ACA or ACCA qualification
• 3+ years' experience within a finance or accounting role
• Strong Excel skills and experience using accounting software
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with finance, commercial and operational teams
• Previous experience within construction, engineering, contracting or a project-based environment would be advantageous
• Fluent written and spoken English
