Optimize Recruitment is delighted to be partnering with a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy to recruit an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected organisation delivering innovative building services projects across a diverse portfolio of sectors.

We're looking for an experienced Mechanical Building Services Engineer who combines strong technical expertise with excellent communication and leadership skills.

You will have:

• Degree qualification (or equivalent) in Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer status, or be in the final stages of achieving chartership.
• Previous experience within a building services consultancy or contractor design environment.
• Strong knowledge of current mechanical engineering design standards and industry best practice.
• Experience using design software such as IES, HEVACOMP, NBS, and Revit.
• CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant (LCC) accreditation is desirable.
• Excellent understanding of project delivery, including programme and budget management.
• The ability to lead technical delivery, make informed engineering decisions, and work proactively with minimal supervision.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience working directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
• A collaborative approach with a passion for mentoring and developing colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop a thorough understanding of client requirements through effective stakeholder engagement and project briefings.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and project teams.
• Prepare high-quality mechanical specifications and equipment schedules.
• Perform heating, cooling, ventilation, and related engineering calculations to support compliant and efficient building services designs.
• Produce and review detailed technical calculations using industry-standard design software while providing technical guidance to junior engineers.
• Collaborate with international design teams to deliver coordinated, high-quality engineering solutions.
• Represent the company confidently in client meetings, design reviews, and project coordination meetings.
• Carry out site inspections, surveys, and construction progress reviews to ensure designs are implemented correctly.
• Take ownership of project delivery, ensuring programmes, budgets, and technical standards are achieved.
• Mentor and support the development of junior engineers and contribute to the continued growth of the mechanical engineering team.
• Take an active leadership role within the Mechanical Design team, driving technical excellence and continuous improvement.

You'll play a key role in leading mechanical design delivery, managing client relationships, mentoring engineers, and contributing to technically challenging projects from concept through to completion.
