Working closely with the Senior Resident Engineer, you will play a key role in the supervision and delivery of this major marine project. The role involves both island-based and mainland supervision duties, with accommodation provided in Connemara for the duration of the contract.
Team & Work Structure:
RE team based in a rented house in Connemara (3–4 nights per week optional stay).
1–2 nights per week on Inis Oírr in the early stages, rising to up to 4 nights thereafter.
3–4 full days per week on the island, overlapping with another RE team member daily.
1–2 days per week supervising quarrying, casting, and transhipping facilities in Connemara.
Typical working hours: 8am–6pm (flexibility required).
Essential:
Diploma in Engineering or Construction Management (Level 6 NFQ or equivalent), membership of the Institute of Clerks of Works in Ireland, or equivalent qualification.
10+ years’ postgraduate experience in civil engineering works, including 7+ years’ site-based experience (bridge, marine, or civil works).
Proven experience as a Clerk of Works within a Resident Engineer team (or equivalent).
Strong knowledge of H&S legislation and construction best practices.
Excellent organisational, record-keeping, and report-writing skills.
Ability to interpret drawings, measure works, and monitor variations.
Good knowledge of surveying, levelling, and setting out.
Desirable:
Proficiency in spoken Gaeilge (to communicate with island residents on non-technical matters).
Safe Pass certification (mandatory before start date).
Experience in concrete sampling and testing.
Support the Senior Resident Engineer in liaising with contractors, clients, and stakeholders.
Ensure adequate site supervision and compliance with contract specifications.
Review contractor claims, payment applications, and method statements.
Monitor construction progress and report against programme.
Oversee compliance with licences, traffic management plans, and safety protocols.
Maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and manage contractual documentation.
Ensure works are carried out to required standards in accordance with drawings and specifications.
