Quantity Surveyor – Civils
Location: Portlaoise (office-based with regular site visits)
Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: €50,000 -€75,000
Package: Vehicle, fuel card, pension, professional development support

About the Role
Optimize Recruitment, working closely with our client, are seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established civil engineering contractor based in Portlaoise. The role involves providing full commercial support across a variety of projects throughout the Midlands, with regular site visits required.

This contractor has over 100 staff and delivers high-profile civils and infrastructure works, including public realm schemes, ESB and utilities infrastructure, roadworks, and public developments. The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership, project managers, and site teams to ensure value optimisation, cost control, and strong commercial performance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and implementing commercial strategy for assigned projects
  • Manage subcontract packages, payments, and agreements with suppliers and consultants
  • Oversee cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting across projects
  • Prepare and agree valuations, variations, interim payments, and final accounts
  • Produce accurate cost/value reports with risk and opportunity analysis
  • Maintain subcontractor and supplier contractual details and records
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and contractual obligations
  • Support estimating activities and contribute to tender submissions
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and site teams to drive project delivery

Requirements

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related field
  • 3+ years’ post-graduate experience in civils or infrastructure projects
  • Chartered or actively pursuing chartership (RICS, SCSI, CIOB, or equivalent) highly beneficial
  • Strong experience in cost reporting, valuations, and CVR processes
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, and cost management systems
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to balance assertiveness with diplomacy when dealing with clients, consultants, and subcontractors
  • Commitment to continuous professional development in commercial and contract management
