About the Role
Optimize Recruitment, working closely with our client, are seeking an Operations Manager to join the senior leadership team of a leading civil engineering contractor.
The successful candidate will oversee the operational delivery of civil and infrastructure projects across Ireland, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency at every stage. This is a senior appointment offering long-term progression and influence within a dynamic and expanding contractor.
Projects span roads, utilities, groundworks, public realm, and large commercial and residential developments. The role requires a strong leader with proven experience in managing multidisciplinary teams and driving operational performance at scale.

Responsibilities
- Lead operational delivery across all civil engineering projects nationwide
- Oversee project managers, site teams, and engineering staff
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards
- Manage resource planning, supply chain, and subcontractor performance
- Drive excellence in programme management, risk management, and reporting
- Support tendering, contract management (Public Works & NEC), and client negotiations
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards (CIF, ISO, HSA)
- Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships
- Develop and implement initiatives to improve productivity, efficiency, and sustainability
- Provide operational updates to the Managing Director and senior leadership team
Requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
- Chartered Engineer desirable (Engineers Ireland or equivalent)
- 12+ years’ civil engineering/construction experience, including 3+ years in operations or senior leadership
- Proven track record delivering major civil and infrastructure projects in Ireland
- Strong knowledge of Irish regulations, Public Works & NEC contracts, and local authority requirements
- Skilled in budget, programme, and commercial performance management
- Excellent leadership, team management, and communication skills
- Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation ability
- Commitment to safety, quality, and environmental performance at the highest standard
