Setting Out Engineer – Structural Steel 
Location: Poolbeg, Dublin (Main Site) – Other Dublin Sites as Required

Optimize Recruitment, working closely with our client, a Large Structural Steel Contractor, are seeking a Setting Out Engineer to join the Team. The successful candidate will primarily be based on the new ESB Gas Turbine facility in Poolbeg, Dublin (East). While the focus will be on Poolbeg, additional support may occasionally be required on other Dublin-based sites.

Salary & Benefits:

  • €50,000 – €65,000 per annum

About the Role:
This is a hands-on role involving the setting out and coordination of large-scale structural steel packages. Working on a major energy development, the position offers an excellent platform for progression, with clear potential to advance into Project Management over time.

The candidate will need experience with Total Stations & GPS – Irish Experience Required (potentially open to UK exp. also). The incumbent will need to be highly accurate in terms of Setting Out. Experience with Topcon highly valuable.

Responsibilities:

  • Setting out and surveying structural steel works with Total Stations & GPS
  • Verifying dimensions, alignment, and tolerances with millimetre precision
  • Maintaining accurate site records, QA documentation, and as-built drawings
  • Liaising with main contractors, consultants, and design teams to ensure delivery
  • Monitoring progress, reporting updates, and supporting programme tracking
  • Overseeing subcontractors and ensuring compliance with specifications
  • Assisting in technical problem-solving and implementing corrective actions
  • Supporting health, safety, and environmental standards on site
  • Contributing to handover procedures and project close-out documentation

Requirements:

  • Third-level qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction, or related discipline (trade background also considered)
  • 2 years’ setting out experience on large-scale construction projects
  • Proven ability with Total Stations & GPS equipment – essential
  • Experience in structural steel works is highly advantageous
  • Strong knowledge of Irish construction regulations and standards
  • Excellent attention to detail with proven accuracy in technical delivery
  • Strong communication and coordination skills for multidisciplinary teamwork
