Estimator – Rail Infrastructure Projects
Location: North Dublin (Hybrid Options Available)
Hours: Full-time, Permanent (37.5 hours per week)
Sector: Consultancy – Rail Infrastructure
Salary: €65,000 – €90,000+ DOE
Package: Fuel allowance/mileage, healthcare, dental care, pension, hybrid working (2 days from home), high amount of annual leave

About the Role
Optimize Recruitment, working closely with our client, are seeking an Estimator to join a leading consultancy team specialising in rail and civils infrastructure. This is a standalone position initially, reporting directly to the Director of Civils Infrastructure, with scope to develop into a full team function as projects progress.

The role will involve working on Metrolink, Irish Rail, and wider TII projects, as well as supporting rail programmes in the UK. The successful candidate will prepare accurate estimates across all project stages, support tender submissions, and work closely with key stakeholders including Irish Rail and TII.

This position is ideal for an ambitious estimator with rail and civils experience who wants to contribute to high-profile transportation schemes while developing their career within a growing specialist team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate estimates for large-scale rail and civils projects
  • Support tender submissions and full project lifecycle estimating
  • Report directly to the Director of Civils Infrastructure
  • Work closely with Irish Rail, TII, and other major stakeholders
  • Contribute to Metrolink and national rail upgrade projects
  • Carry out measurements to support BoQ and cost plans
  • Maintain and update cost databases and digital estimating systems
  • Produce clear, accurate, and timely commercial reports
  • Provide input on risk, programme, and investment processes
  • Mentor junior colleagues as the team expands

Requirements

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or related discipline (preferred)
  • Proven estimating experience on major rail or rail systems projects
  • Strong general civils and infrastructure estimating capability
  • Familiarity with Irish Rail, TII, and Metrolink projects highly desirable
  • Knowledge of GRIP/Pathway lifecycles and estimating methodologies
  • Good understanding of cost breakdown structures and measurement methods
  • Proficiency in estimating software and digital systems
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts (experience with Irish market forms advantageous)
  • Membership of RICS, CIOB, or ACostE desirable
  • Irish or UK experience highly advantageous
