Associate Director – Project Management / Engineering (Bridges & Transportation Infrastructure)
Location: Cork City
Hours: Full-time, Permanent (37.5 hours per week)
Sector: Consultancy – Transportation Infrastructure (Bridges & Civils)
Package: Fuel Allowance/Mileage, Healthcare, Dental Care, Pension

About the Role
Optimize Recruitment, working closely with our client, are seeking an Associate Director to join a growing bridges and transportation infrastructure consultancy in Cork. This role will focus on the delivery of major bridge design, inspection, rehabilitation, and transportation projects across Ireland and the UK.

With a substantial portfolio of secured work and a strong pipeline of upcoming schemes, this position offers a clear path to progression towards Director level, supported by a collaborative senior management team. Senior Bridge Engineers with relevant leadership experience will also be considered.

This is a hybrid role with flexible work-from-home arrangements and excellent long-term career development opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of bridge engineering professionals
  • Oversee technical delivery of structural aspects of projects
  • Manage medium to large-scale civil/bridge projects to quality, budget, and programme
  • Support business development and tender bids for professional services contracts
  • Undertake short, medium, and long-term resource planning
  • Act as a senior client liaison and manage key stakeholder relationships
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to junior engineers
  • Assist with PSDP duties where required
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, Eurocodes, and best practice
  • Coordinate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams

Requirements

  • Level 8 Honours Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • 10+ years’ experience in bridge/civil engineering (ideally with Irish Experience) 
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng, MIStructE, or equivalent)
  • Strong leadership and project management experience within bridges/transportation projects
  • Proven track record in design, inspection, assessment, and rehabilitation of bridge structures
  • Proficiency with Eurocodes and structural analysis software such as MIDAS Civil or LUSAS
  • Experience in design and refurbishment of concrete, steel, and masonry structures
  • Strong client-facing and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Irish or UK experience highly advantageous
