Specification Technologist

Our client operates within the industry to deliver high-quality food products, ensuring compliance with strict safety and quality standards across their range. They are currently seeking a dedicated Specifications Technologist to join their team. This role plays a key part in maintaining product integrity, ensuring regulatory adherence, and driving continuous improvements within their quality systems.

The Successful Candidate Will Have

• A Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related discipline
• Relevant experience within food manufacturing, with a solid grasp of quality control systems and regulatory frameworks
• Practical knowledge of food safety management systems such as HACCP, BRC, ISO 22000, or FSSC 22000
• Proven ability to conduct internal audits and manage supplier assessments effectively
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, combined with strong analytical capabilities
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work seamlessly with various departments
• Experience navigating retailer-specific specification requirements (e.g., major UK and Irish supermarket standards)
• Familiarity with food legislation and labelling rules relevant to Ireland and/or the UK
• Competence in managing multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
• Understanding of risk management methodologies (e.g., FMEA) and project management principles related to product development
• Knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and food safety auditing practices

Duties will include

• Maintain and update comprehensive product specifications, ensuring they align with both internal policies and regulatory demands
• Verify that raw materials and finished products consistently meet defined quality and safety criteria
• Conduct thorough internal audits to assess adherence to company standards and external regulations
• Support external audits by preparing documentation and facilitating compliance checks
• Collaborate closely with cross-departmental teams to keep product documentation current and accurate
• Lead initiatives aimed at enhancing food safety and quality performance
• Review and approve packaging designs and artwork to ensure compliance with applicable legislation and internal guidelines
• Participate in supplier evaluations and audits to uphold raw material quality and safety standards
• Stay informed of evolving regulatory requirements and industry best practices related to food labelling, safety, and quality
• Ensure timely and precise documentation related to specifications, quality assurance, and audit activities
• Support new product introductions and modifications by working alongside product development and operations teams
