Health and Safety Officer
Optimize Recruitment is partnering with a prominent provider of renewable energy solutions in Ireland to find a Health and Safety Officer. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and fostering a safe work environment. Reporting directly to the Health and Safety Manager, the position involves implementing safety management systems, performing regular safety audits, and supporting on-site staff. Responsibilities
- Develop and implement standardized procedures and policies to drive continuous improvement and ensure a consistent approach to Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) across the business.
- Manage EHS programs throughout the organization, providing oversight and governance to ensure compliance with safety regulations, laws, and company policies.
- Implement and maintain the company's Safety Management System while ensuring alignment with corporate EHS strategies and objectives.
- Conduct site inspections and audits to verify compliance with all safety and company requirements, reporting findings to the Head of EHS.
- Deliver and oversee workplace health and safety inductions, weekly toolbox talks, on-site training, and safety initiatives to promote a culture of EHS.
- Organize and chair safety meetings, ensuring effective communication and collaboration on EHS matters.
- Identify training needs and report requirements to the Head of EHS, ensuring continuous development of site personnel.
- Review sub-contractors' Method Statements and Risk Assessments, providing assistance where needed to enhance safety practices.
- Maintain and assess sub-contractor insurance, safety statements, and method statements to ensure compliance.
- Assist with accident and incident investigations, identifying opportunities to reduce workplace injuries, accidents, and health risks while contributing to improvement initiatives.
- Advise and assist site teams in drafting Safe Plans of Action, ensuring best practices are followed.
- Ensure compliance with safety laws, regulations, codes, and industry standards, attending client safety audits and meetings as required.
- Provide general support and assistance to the Head of EHS, contributing to corporate EHS activities and promoting a strong safety culture.
- Identify and mitigate risks early, resolving or escalating issues as appropriate to maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensure adherence to core Customer Care principles, supporting the delivery of high-quality engineering and construction projects.
- Submit weekly reports detailing safety performance, compliance status, and improvement initiatives.
- Work within a dynamic team to assist in the management of complex engineering and construction projects.
- Support EHS performance reporting standards and collaborate to verify compliance with business safety standards.
Qualifications
- A relevant 3rd level qualification in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is essential.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role.
- Experience in the construction industry is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong organisational and planning abilities.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
