Salary: Depending on experience – open to discussion (€50k–€80k or higher)

About the Role:
Optimize Recruitment, working closely with our client, are seeking an MEP Estimator for a permanent position based ideally in Waterford, with flexibility for the role to be carried out from Dublin. This is a superb opportunity for a junior or intermediate-level estimator who wishes to grow within a dynamic, multidisciplinary cost consultancy.

The successful candidate will be tasked with estimating responsibilities across a variety of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) installations, contributing to high-profile projects across the commercial, residential, civil, and pharmaceutical sectors. Reporting directly to senior management, you will play a key part in providing detailed cost insights and value engineering analysis across multiple stages of the project lifecycle.

The Role – Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate MEP estimates based on drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • Carry out detailed quantity take-offs and build-up of rates from first principles.
  • Develop and review cost plans, feasibility studies, and budget estimates.
  • Participate in value management and value engineering processes.
  • Prepare MEP tender documentation and support the evaluation process.
  • Contribute to whole life cost analysis and carbon assessments.
  • Provide commercial advice on MEP cost implications at various stages of design.
  • Assist in developing financial reports, cost tracking, and cash flow forecasting.
  • Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams, contributing to ISO-certified systems in quality, health & safety, and environmental management.
  • Advise on technical aspects of MEP systems from a cost estimation perspective.

The Requirements:

  • A Level 9 Postgraduate Certificate in MEP Estimating/Quantity Surveying or a B.Eng. in MEP Engineering.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in estimating MEP systems, ideally within a consultancy or contractor environment.
  • Strong understanding of cost planning for mechanical and electrical installations across various sectors.
  • Excellent IT and digital estimation software proficiency – ideally with Bluebeam, CostX, Cubit, BIM tools.
  • Experience in life cycle costing and carbon assessment tools is an advantage.
  • Highly organised with a proactive approach and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Irish or UK experience is highly advantageous.
