Job Description

Site Engineer
Main Contractor
Major Rail Project 
Cork City

Optimize, working closely with our Client, a Main and renowned Irish Contractor, are seeking a Setting Out Engineer, for a large Rail Project in Cork. The project is intended increase commuter service frequency to Cork city. Key works include installing a second track, signalling upgrades, and bridge modifications, with completion expected in two years time. Project is expected to commence in the coming weeks. 

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with a main Irish Contractor and ideally, will have worked on Rail projects prior.

Responsibilities: 
  • Interpret and convey technical information from drawings, specifications, and other documentation to foremen, operatives, and subcontractors, ensuring clear understanding of project requirements.
  • Ensure all site personnel, including foremen and operatives, are fully informed of the work scope and objectives.
  • Carry out materials testing as instructed by your supervisor or line manager, adhering to the relevant specifications.
  • Maintain a detailed site diary, recording daily activities, relevant information, and key events.
  • Provide regular progress updates, including subcontractor performance, to your manager.
  • Continuously seek learning opportunities from more experienced colleagues and supervisors, asking questions when uncertain.
  • Proactively engage in personal development and training, ensuring timely completion of the work-based development programme.
  • Perform work in compliance with safety standards, promptly addressing unsafe practices and reporting them where necessary.

Requirements:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in setting out on civil engineering projects; rail experience is advantageous.
  • Previous experience with a main contractor is essential.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with site teams and management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Project and PowerPoint.
