This is an opportunity to join a collaborative, multidisciplinary DNA research team working across exciting Discovery-focused projects. Combining deep-dive computational data analysis with hands-on laboratory work, you'll play a key role in exploring complex DNA datasets, supporting sample upscaling, and developing innovative approaches to improve scientific and technical processes.
This is not a role focused on simply running pre-built pipelines. We're looking for someone who enjoys asking questions of the data, investigating complex problems, interpreting results, and creating meaningful outputs that can be translated into real-world improvements.

Explore, analyse, and interpret complex DNA and genomic datasets to identify meaningful insights and opportunities.
Conduct detailed data analysis and investigation rather than relying solely on established or pre-built bioinformatics pipelines.
Generate data outputs that support ongoing Discovery projects, scientific research, and technical decision-making.
Apply your understanding of DNA data to support sample upscaling and improve sample processing workflows.
Combine desk-based computational analysis with hands-on laboratory and bench-based activities.
Support the development and optimisation of processes through data-driven analysis and scientific insight.
Contribute to multiple ongoing DNA-focused projects within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to complex scientific and technical challenges.
Explore innovative approaches to improve processes, generate new insights, and support continuous improvement.
Work collaboratively with colleagues from diverse technical and scientific backgrounds.

PhD in Bioinformatics, Genetics, Genomics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Computational Biology, or another relevant scientific discipline.
Strong academic or professional background in DNA, genetics, genomics, or a related scientific field.
Experience with DNA data analysis, interpretation, and detailed data exploration.
Knowledge or experience in areas such as population genetics, DNA profiling, genetic identification, or genomic research.
Ability to independently investigate and interpret complex datasets rather than relying exclusively on established analytical pipelines.
Experience working with data to support sample upscaling, process optimisation, or workflow improvement.
Experience combining computational or desk-based analysis with hands-on laboratory or bench work.
Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
A research-driven mindset with a genuine interest in innovation and developing new approaches.
Experience within animal genetics, animal genomics, DNA testing, genetic profiling, or related industries would be highly advantageous.
Experience within a biotechnology, genomics, life sciences, or research environment is desirable.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
Candidates with academic or research backgrounds from leading universities will be considered, with experience from institutions such as Trinity College Dublin or University College Dublin particularly relevant.
DNA science is transforming how we understand identification, genetics, traceability, and biological populations. In this position, you'll be at the intersection of scientific research, computational analysis, and hands-on laboratory workusing your expertise to uncover insights from complex DNA data and help turn those insights into practical improvements.
You'll have the opportunity to work on Discovery-focused projects, contribute to sample upscaling and process optimisation, and collaborate with a diverse team of technical and scientific professionals. Rather than simply following established processes, you'll have the opportunity to investigate, question, innovate, and help shape new approaches.

The role is offered on an initial 6-month contract, with potential for the position to become permanent. The working arrangement is hybrid, with three days per week onsite required. Immediate availability is highly preferred to support a smooth handover from the departing team member.
