Job Description

Step Into a Hands-On Engineering Leadership Role Driving Manufacturing Excellence

Mechanical Project Engineer - Engineering Projects & Capex Delivery

Imagine being the engineer who takes an idea on paper and turns it into fully operational manufacturing capability across multiple sites. From concept design through to installation, commissioning, and optimisation, you ensure that equipment, systems, and processes don’t just work-but perform reliably, safely, and efficiently in a high-demand production environment.

This role sits at the centre of manufacturing operations and engineering delivery, where capital investment, technical decision-making, and cross-site collaboration come together. You’ll be trusted to lead projects that directly impact uptime, productivity, compliance, and long-term operational performance.

What you'll achieve (and why it matters):
Bring your engineering and project leadership capability into a multi-site manufacturing environment where delivery, reliability, and continuous improvement are critical:

• Lead and deliver engineering projects across multiple manufacturing sites, from minor upgrades to major capital investments
• Own full project lifecycle delivery including concept development, design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and handover
• Manage project scope, budgets, timelines, risks, and resources to ensure safe and successful delivery
• Lead on-site teams, contractors, and suppliers during installation and commissioning activities
• Develop and review engineering design documentation aligned with functional design specifications and internal engineering standards
• Interpret and work confidently with 2D/3D drawings, P&IDs, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics
• Investigate recurring equipment issues and implement sustainable corrective and preventative solutions
• Drive equipment reliability, efficiency, and compliance with both internal standards and external regulations
• Conduct technical evaluations to improve performance, safety, cost efficiency, and operational stability
• Ensure preventative maintenance systems are effectively applied and continuously improved
• Lead site inspections during installation and commissioning to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
• Prepare and present engineering reports, project updates, and performance insights to management teams
• Ensure strict adherence to Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards across all project activity
• Support compliance with ISO management systems (9001, 14001, 45001, 50001) and associated certification requirements
• Contribute to wider compliance frameworks including ISO 37301 and internal governance standards
• Collaborate across sites and engineering disciplines to support group-wide improvement initiatives
• Support continuous improvement programmes and operational excellence initiatives
• Mentor junior engineers or graduates where appropriate
• Engage with additional engineering responsibilities aligned to business and operational needs

Your edge (desired, not required):
• 3–5 years’ experience in an engineering role within manufacturing or industrial environments
• Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or related engineering discipline
• Strong capital project management experience from concept through to commissioning
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation confidently
• Experience with installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of industrial equipment
• Working knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems
• Experience using CAD or similar engineering design tools
• Strong analytical thinking and structured problem-solving capability
• Proven ability to lead contractors, suppliers, and site-based teams
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements in industrial environments
• Strong IT proficiency including MS Office and project tracking tools

Nice to have:
• HNC/HND or additional practical engineering qualifications
• Experience in cold rolling or similar manufacturing processes
• Exposure to multi-site engineering operations
• Familiarity with ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001, 50001)
• Experience managing contractors and external engineering suppliers
• Exposure to electrical installation regulations and compliance frameworks

Why this role matters:
This is a key engineering delivery role where your decisions directly influence manufacturing performance, safety, and efficiency across multiple sites. You’ll be responsible for turning capital investment into operational reality—ensuring equipment is installed correctly, systems perform as intended, and improvements are embedded into long-term production capability.

The next step for you:
