MAT Recruitment is working with a secondary school in Liverpool to recruit an English Teacher for a part-time maternity cover position, working three days per week until Summer 2027.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced teacher or ECT looking for a rewarding role with a consistent timetable, the chance to build strong relationships with pupils and the opportunity to make a genuine impact over the academic year.

The Role

You'll be responsible for delivering engaging and inspiring English lessons, helping pupils develop their reading, writing, communication and analytical skills.

We're looking for someone who can make Shakespeare feel relevant, encourage even the most reluctant writers and help pupils build the confidence to express their ideas.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Planning and delivering engaging English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.

• Supporting pupils in developing their literacy, comprehension and creative writing skills.

• Preparing pupils for assessments and GCSE examinations where appropriate.

• Creating a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and achievement.

• Assessing progress, providing constructive feedback and adapting teaching to meet different learning needs.

• Maintaining strong classroom management and positive relationships with pupils.

• Working collaboratively with the English department to ensure continuity of learning throughout the maternity cover.

What We're Looking For

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

• Experience teaching English within a UK secondary school.

• Strong knowledge of the KS3 and KS4 English curriculum.

• A genuine passion for English Language and Literature.

• The ability to engage and motivate pupils of varying abilities.

• Strong behaviour management and communication skills.

• Availability to work Tuesday, Thursday and Friday each week.
