Job Description
MAT Recruitment is supporting an online SEND school to appoint an Attendance Officer who will help pupils engage consistently with their education.
This role would suit someone with experience in attendance, pastoral support, family liaison or inclusion who understands the importance of working sensitively with pupils and families to overcome barriers to learning.
Although the school delivers education online, this role requires regular attendance at its Wimbledon head office. Applicants must therefore be based locally and able to travel regularly.
The Role
You will monitor attendance at online lessons, follow up on absences and work with pupils, parents and carers to understand what may be preventing consistent participation.
Combining accurate record-keeping with supportive family communication, you will help the school identify concerns early and develop effective approaches to improving attendance and engagement.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring attendance and punctuality at scheduled online lessons.
- Following up on unexplained or unauthorised absences in line with school procedures.
- Working constructively with parents and carers to identify and address barriers to attendance.
- Tracking attendance patterns and identifying pupils at risk of persistent absence.
- Supporting and reviewing strategies to improve engagement, taking account of individual SEND needs.
- Monitoring electronic registers and following up on missing or incomplete entries.
- Providing clear attendance reports and analysis to senior leaders and relevant colleagues.
- Working with pastoral, SEND and safeguarding colleagues where attendance concerns indicate wider support needs.
- Liaising with external agencies where appropriate.
- Building positive, professional relationships with pupils and families.
About You
You will bring:
- Significant experience working with young people and their families.
- Experience supporting pupils facing personal, social or emotional barriers to learning.
- An understanding of SEND and the importance of adapting communication and support to individual needs.
- Experience improving pupil engagement and attitudes to learning.
- A strong understanding of attendance processes and safeguarding responsibilities.
- Confidence using IT systems, databases and data analysis tools.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, families and external agencies.
Qualifications
- GCSE English at grade AC / 4 or above, or equivalent.
- Literacy and numeracy at Level 2 or above.
- A Level 4 qualification or significant relevant experience.
- Evidence of relevant continuing professional development.
How to Apply
Please make clear your experience using Arbor and your ability to travel regularly to the Wimbledon head office.
