Job Description

MAT Recruitment are working with a secondary school in Salford to appoint an experienced and dedicated SENCO to join their team from September 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for a committed SEND specialist who is passionate about inclusive education and ensuring that all pupils are supported to achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading SEND provision across the school, working closely with staff, families, external agencies and senior leaders to secure high-quality support for pupils with additional needs.

The Role

As SENCO, you will be responsible for coordinating and developing SEND provision across the school, ensuring that pupils receive the right support, interventions and adjustments to help them thrive.

You will be expected to:

  • Lead and manage SEND provision across the school
  • Identify, assess and monitor pupils with additional needs
  • Oversee EHCP processes, annual reviews and access arrangements
  • Work closely with teaching staff to support high-quality adaptive teaching
  • Support and advise colleagues on strategies to meet individual pupil needs
  • Liaise effectively with parents, carers, external agencies and local authority professionals
  • Monitor the impact of interventions and support plans
  • Maintain accurate SEND records and ensure statutory requirements are met
  • Contribute to whole-school inclusion, safeguarding and pastoral priorities

The Successful Candidate

The school are looking for someone who:

  • Holds QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
  • Has experience working with pupils with SEND in a secondary school setting
  • Holds the National Award for SEN Coordination, is working towards it, or is willing to complete the qualification
  • Has a strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice
  • Can work confidently with staff, families and external professionals
  • Is organised, compassionate and able to manage complex caseloads
  • Has high expectations for all pupils and a genuine commitment to inclusive education
  • Can provide strategic leadership while remaining hands-on and pupil-focused

Previous SENCO, Assistant SENCO, inclusion leadership or pastoral leadership experience would be highly desirable.
