Job Description

MAT Recruitment are working with a secondary school in Staffordshire to appoint an ambitious and highly skilled Science Lead Teacher to join their team from September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Science specialist who is passionate about raising standards, developing teaching and learning, and supporting colleagues to deliver excellent outcomes for pupils. The successful candidate will be a strong classroom practitioner with the confidence, subject knowledge and leadership ability to drive improvement across Science.

The Role

As Science Lead Teacher, you will play a key role in supporting the development of high-quality teaching, curriculum delivery and student progress across the department. You will model excellent practice, coach and mentor colleagues, and contribute to the wider improvement priorities of the school.

You will be expected to:

  • Deliver engaging and effective Science lessons across KS3 and KS4
  • Model outstanding classroom practice and support the development of teaching and learning across the department
  • Lead on curriculum development, assessment and intervention strategies within Science
  • Use data effectively to identify gaps, raise attainment and support student progress
  • Coach, mentor and support teachers, including ECTs and less experienced colleagues
  • Contribute to departmental and whole-school improvement priorities
  • Promote high expectations, strong behaviour routines and a positive learning culture

The Successful Candidate

The school are looking for a Science specialist who:

  • Holds QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
  • Has a strong track record of teaching Science at secondary level
  • Can demonstrate excellent subject knowledge and consistently strong classroom practice
  • Has experience of improving outcomes and supporting student progress
  • Is confident supporting, coaching or mentoring other teaching staff
  • Has high expectations of pupils and a commitment to inclusive education
  • Is reflective, resilient and motivated to make a meaningful impact

Previous leadership, coaching, mentoring or whole-school teaching and learning experience would be highly desirable.
