This is an excellent opportunity for a talented teacher who is ready to take on a key leadership role within a creative and well-resourced department. The successful candidate will lead Art and Technology provision, shape the future direction of the curriculum, and support high standards of teaching, learning and student achievement.
The role would suit a passionate Art, Product Design, Food Technology or Technology specialist who is ready to lead, develop and inspire both students and colleagues.
The Role
As Head of Art and Technology, you will be responsible for leading, managing and developing curriculum provision across the Art and Technology area. You will work closely with senior leaders and teaching staff to ensure students receive high-quality, engaging and ambitious lessons that build knowledge, confidence and creativity.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading the Art and Technology curriculum across relevant key stages
- Raising standards of teaching, learning and student outcomes within the department
- Developing schemes of work, learning resources and assessment approaches
- Using data effectively to monitor progress, identify gaps and support intervention
- Supporting, coaching and mentoring teaching and support staff
- Promoting high expectations, positive behaviour and excellent classroom practice
- Preparing students for assessments and examinations where appropriate
- Encouraging enrichment opportunities, including trips, visits and wider learning experiences
- Contributing to wider school improvement priorities
- Promoting an inclusive culture where all students can succeed
The Department
The Art and Technology department is well-resourced and includes a range of specialist teaching spaces and workshops. Facilities include:
- Food Technology rooms
- Textiles room
- Product Design workshops
- Art rooms
- Kiln room
- Dark room
- Mixed media room
- IT access and laptop trolleys
- Interactive whiteboards and classroom technology
Students follow a broad and engaging curriculum that allows them to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding across Art, Technology, Product Design, Food and Textiles. The curriculum is regularly reviewed to meet the needs of learners and reflect the changing educational and cultural landscape.
The Successful Candidate
The school is looking for someone who can inspire young people, lead with confidence and contribute positively to a strong and supportive staff team.
The successful candidate will have:
- Qualified Teacher Status
- Successful teaching experience within a secondary school setting
- Strong subject knowledge in Art, Technology, Product Design, Food Technology or a related area
- A proven ability to raise standards and improve student outcomes
- Experience of curriculum planning and assessment
- Strong behaviour management skills
- The ability to use data effectively to support progress
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to motivate students and staff
- A reflective and resilient approach to leadership
- A commitment to inclusion, safeguarding and high expectations for all learners
Experience teaching Key Stage 3 is essential, and experience teaching GCSE, A Level or Level 3 vocational courses would be advantageous.
