Join a forward-thinking school in Blackburn at a pivotal time in its development, taking a key leadership role that directly shapes outcomes for pupils, staff, and the wider community. This is an opportunity to work closely with the Principal and senior leadership team to drive improvement, refine the curriculum, and embed a culture of high expectations and support.

About the Role:
As Assistant Principal, you will play a central role in the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the school, with a focus on raising standards and improving teaching and learning. You will lead on key whole-school priorities, using data and evidence to inform decisions and drive sustained improvement. Working collaboratively with staff at all levels, you will ensure the school provides a safe, inclusive, and aspirational environment for all pupils.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage designated areas of the school’s strategic plan, ensuring clear implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of impact.
  • Oversee curriculum planning and development within allocated key stages or subject areas, ensuring coherence, progression, and alignment with statutory requirements.
  • Use data analysis to monitor pupil progress and attainment, identifying trends, gaps, and priorities for intervention and improvement.
  • Lead on behaviour management strategies, promoting a consistent, positive behaviour culture and supporting staff to implement agreed policies.
  • Ensure robust safeguarding practices are embedded across the school, working with the safeguarding team to maintain a safe environment for all pupils.
  • Line-manage and support staff, including leading performance management and appraisal processes to drive professional growth and accountability.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of whole-school improvement plans, working with the senior leadership team to set, review, and achieve ambitious targets.
  • Support the operational running of the school, including timetabling, organisation of key events, and effective communication with staff, pupils, and parents.

    Key Requirements:
  • Proven experience in a middle or senior leadership role within a school setting.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate, support, and challenge colleagues.
  • Demonstrable experience in curriculum planning and development, with a clear understanding of effective teaching and learning.
  • Track record of using data analysis to inform decision-making and drive school improvement.
  • Experience in leading behaviour management approaches and contributing to a positive school culture.
  • Sound understanding of safeguarding principles and statutory guidance, with experience applying them in practice.
  • Evidence of successful involvement in school improvement planning and implementation.
  • Excellent organisational and strategic planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

    Desirable Skills:
  • Experience of leading whole-school initiatives or projects from inception to evaluation.
  • Familiarity with a range of school data and assessment systems.
  • Experience of coaching, mentoring, or delivering professional development to staff.
  • Involvement in external inspections or reviews and follow-up improvement work.
Experience of working effectively with governors, external agencies, and wider stakeholders.

Qualifications:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Evidence of sustained professional development in leadership and school improvement.
  • Postgraduate or leadership qualification (e.g. NPQSL, NPQML, NPQH) preferred.

If you are a committed school leader ready to take the next step in your career and make a measurable impact, we invite you to apply and help shape the future success of this Blackburn school.
