Job Description

Technology | Textiles | Engineering |

This is not a department that stands still. This is one that prototypes, designs, tests and evolves and it needs a leader who thinks the same way.

We are supporting a large secondary school with exceptional, modern facilities to appoint a Director of Learning across Technology, Textiles and Engineering. This is a rare opportunity to lead a subject area where creativity meets real-world application and where students don’t just learn, they make, create and innovate.

The brief, in plain terms:
You’ll take ownership of a multi-disciplinary faculty and turn it into something exceptional. Curriculum, culture, outcomes, staff development all of it sits with you.

You’ll be leading a space where:

  • Engineering meets creativity
  • Design thinking is embedded from KS3 upwards
  • Students leave with real, practical skills and ambition
  • Industry links and enrichment aren’t add-ons, they’re expected

This role is positioned as a genuine opportunity to redefine how technical and creative education is delivered

What you’ll be doing:

  • Setting a clear, ambitious direction for the department
  • Building a strong team culture with high expectations and accountability
  • Driving teaching quality and outcomes through coaching and intelligent use of data
  • Developing a curriculum that balances academic rigour with practical application
  • Creating meaningful links with industry and the wider community

What we’re looking for:

  • A current or aspiring subject leader within Technology, Engineering or Design
  • Someone who thrives on innovation and isn’t afraid to challenge the norm
  • A confident leader who can bring people with them
  • A strong practitioner who understands what great teaching looks like in these subjects
  • Energy, presence and a genuine passion for hands-on learning

What’s on offer:

  • MPS/UPS + TLR (with scope to shape and grow the faculty)
  • A school that invests in professional development and leadership progression
  • Access to outstanding, purpose-built facilities that genuinely support delivery
  • A culture built around high standards, inclusion and continuous improvement
  • The chance to leave a real legacy in a subject area that matters

Safeguarding:
This role is subject to enhanced DBS and all safer recruitment checks in line with statutory guidance.

If you’re the type of leader who sees a workshop, studio or classroom as a place of possibility rather than limitation, this could be the one.
