Job Description

MAT Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a growing and ambitious Multi-Academy Trust in the appointment of a Director of Finance. This is a pivotal leadership role, offering the opportunity to shape financial strategy and drive operational excellence across a portfolio of academies.

As a key member of the senior leadership team, you will lead all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, compliance, and risk management. You will play a critical role in ensuring strong financial governance and supporting educational delivery through effective resource planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Trust’s financial strategy and long-term planning
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and financial frameworks
  • Drive financial efficiency and value for money across all academies
  • Provide strategic financial advice to senior leaders and stakeholders
  • Support and challenge academy leaders to achieve financial excellence
  • Maintain robust financial controls, audit processes, and risk management

About You

We are seeking a strategic and forward-thinking finance leader who can operate at both a strategic and operational level.

Essential criteria:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Significant experience in a senior finance leadership role (minimum 5 years)
  • Strong understanding of financial governance, compliance, and audit
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Proven ability to lead, influence, and drive change
