This is a pivotal leadership role, sitting within the senior leadership team, with responsibility for leading English across the school while contributing to wider Quality of Education priorities. You will play a key role in shaping strategy, improving outcomes, and influencing teaching and learning beyond your department.
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
- Holds QTS with a strong background in English teaching and leadership
- Has a proven track record of securing excellent outcomes and leading improvement
- Is ready to step into or further develop senior leadership responsibilities
- Can think strategically while remaining hands-on in driving standards
- Leads with clarity, resilience, and high expectations for both staff and students
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership for English, driving continuous improvement in teaching, learning and outcomes across KS3 and KS4
- Lead and develop a high-performing English team, ensuring consistency and excellence in classroom practice
- Contribute to whole-school improvement planning, working closely with senior leaders on Quality of Education priorities
- Use robust data analysis and quality assurance to identify trends, challenge underperformance, and implement impactful interventions
- Oversee curriculum development, ensuring it is ambitious, well-sequenced and inclusive for all learners
- Lead on raising attainment strategies, including intervention programmes and targeted support
- Line manage staff effectively, including performance management and professional development
- Promote literacy across the wider curriculum and contribute to whole-school strategies
- Act as a visible and influential leader across the school, modelling high standards and professionalism
