MAT Recruitment is supporting the appointment of an exceptional Deputy Headteacher (Behaviour & Culture) for a large secondary setting in Bradford.
This is a senior leadership role for an experienced, values-driven leader who believes that culture comes first, that behaviour is taught (not told), and that remarkably high standards and inclusion go hand in hand.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping whole-school culture, ensuring that every pupil can learn, thrive, and succeed in a calm, purposeful, and aspirational environment.
As Deputy Headteacher with responsibility for Behaviour & Culture, you will:
Lead and embed a clear, consistent, and inclusive behaviour strategy across the school
Work alongside the Headteacher and senior leaders to craft a highly purposeful, motivational culture with explicit norms and routines
Champion a warm-strict, inclusive approach where learning habits are built through consistency
Oversee the graduated response to behaviour, ensuring effective intervention and support at every level
Ensure pupils with additional needs are fully supported through close collaboration with SEN, safeguarding, and inclusion teams
Lead and contribute to Team Around the Child meetings and multi-agency work
Ensure that the most vulnerable pupils are identified early and supported through appropriate pathways
Model positive framing, high expectations, and dignity for all pupils and staff
Lead staff development relating to behaviour, culture, and consistent practice
Line manage staff responsible for key aspects of behaviour and culture, ensuring fairness, clarity, and high professional standards
Use data intelligently to evaluate impact, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement
Represent the school within local behaviour and attendance partnerships to reduce exclusions and improve outcomes
Be a highly visible, proactive senior leader who builds trust with pupils, staff, and families
Essential
Qualified teacher status (QTS) with a strong academic background
Recent, sustained success at Assistant Headteacher level (or equivalent), with demonstrable impact
Strong expertise in pastoral leadership, behaviour, and culture
Excellent understanding of safeguarding and inclusive practice
Proven experience leading school improvement in challenging or high-deprivation contexts
The ability to lead with clarity, warmth, accountability, and moral purpose
A commitment to evidence-informed practice and continuous improvement
Desirable
NPQSL, NPQH, or other relevant leadership qualifications
Experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead
Experience leading behaviour and culture in a turnaround or rapidly improving school
