 This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced early years practitioner to take the next step in their career within a warm, supportive nursery setting where high standards, teamwork, and child development sit at the heart of everything.

The Nursery Third in Charge plays a key role in supporting the Nursery Manager and Deputy Manager with the smooth day-to-day running of the setting, helping to maintain excellent standards of care, learning, and safeguarding while remaining hands-on and visible within the nursery.

The Role

Leadership & Management

  • Support the Manager and Deputy Manager in the effective daily operation of the nursery

  • Act as a key point of contact in the absence of senior leaders when required

  • Lead by example, promoting positive practice and professionalism

  • Support staff with daily routines, ratios, and best practice guidance

Quality of Care & Education

  • Deliver high-quality, age-appropriate learning in line with the EYFS framework

  • Support planning, observations, and assessments to promote strong outcomes for children

  • Maintain a safe, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment

  • Act as a role model for outstanding early years practice

Safeguarding & Compliance

  • Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures at all times

  • Support health and safety standards across the nursery

  • Report and record concerns in line with nursery and safeguarding policies

  • Assist with inspections and quality assurance processes

Staff Support & Development

  • Mentor and support less experienced team members

  • Assist with staff inductions and ongoing training

  • Promote teamwork, clear communication, and a positive staff culture

Parent & Professional Partnerships

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with parents and carers

  • Share regular feedback on children’s progress and wellbeing

  • Liaise with external professionals where required

 Person Specification

Essential

  • Level 3 qualification in Early Years (or equivalent)

  • Experience working in a nursery or early years setting

  • Strong understanding of the EYFS framework and safeguarding requirements

  • Good communication, organisation, and teamwork skills

Desirable

  • Previous room leader or supervisory experience

  • Working towards Level 5 or higher in Early Years

  • Paediatric First Aid and Safeguarding training
