Job Description

Subject Coverage: English, Maths and Science | We are supporting a well-established, small, independent Special School in Chorley to appoint a dedicated KS3–KS4 Teacher who can deliver English, Maths and Science within a highly nurturing, therapeutic environment. The school provides tailored education for pupils with complex SEMH needs, communication difficulties and additional learning barriers. Class sizes are small, relationships are central, and staff work closely as a team to create a safe and structured learning experience for every child.

In this role, you will deliver a broad curriculum to pupils who may struggle in mainstream settings, adapting lessons creatively to meet individual needs. The ability to build trust, offer emotional support, and maintain consistent routines is essential. You will work collaboratively with support staff, therapists and senior leaders to help pupils grow in confidence, develop resilience and make meaningful academic progress.

Key responsibilities:

  • Teach English, Maths and Science across KS3–KS4 with flexible, pupil-centred approaches

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that support both academic and emotional development

  • Build strong, supportive relationships with pupils who present a range of SEMH needs

  • Support behaviour regulation using agreed therapeutic strategies

  • Contribute to individual learning plans, assessments and reviews

  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide consistent support

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in SEMH, SEN, PRU, AP or specialist settings

  • Is patient, reflective and confident supporting pupils with complex needs

  • Can differentiate effectively and remain positive under pressure

  • Is passionate about helping young people re-engage with learning

This is a deeply rewarding opportunity to join a caring and forward-thinking provision where your work truly changes lives.
