Job Description

MAT Recruitment are proud to be supporting a highly inclusive and forward-thinking special school within a values-led Multi-Academy Trust to recruit a Curriculum Lead (PMLD and Complex Autism).

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and compassionate teacher to lead curriculum development for pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and complex autism, ensuring every learner experiences a rich, engaging and meaningful education.


The Role

As Curriculum Lead, you will:

  • Lead the design, development and delivery of an outstanding curriculum for pupils with PMLD and complex autism.

  • Support colleagues to plan personalised, creative learning pathways that promote engagement, communication and independence.

  • Monitor, assess and evaluate curriculum effectiveness, using data and evidence to drive improvement.

  • Provide coaching and CPD to teachers and support staff to develop high-quality specialist pedagogy.

  • Collaborate with senior leaders to shape whole-school improvement priorities and contribute to the School Improvement Plan.

  • Model best practice in inclusive teaching and behaviour support, fostering a nurturing and aspirational learning culture.

  • Promote positive relationships with families and external professionals to ensure continuity of care and support.


About You

We’re looking for a passionate and reflective practitioner who:

  • Holds QTS and has successful teaching experience with pupils with PMLD, SLD, or complex autism.

  • Has excellent knowledge of SEND pedagogy, engagement models and communication approaches (e.g. AAC, PECS, Makaton).

  • Can lead curriculum design, assessment and staff development within a specialist setting.

  • Is resilient, emotionally intelligent and able to inspire others through collaboration and coaching.

  • Shares a genuine commitment to inclusion, equality and improving life chances for every learner.
