Job Description

MAT Recruitment are working in partnership with a values-led Multi-Academy Trust to recruit a Behaviour Lead and Deputy DSL (Special) for one of their specialist schools.

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and compassionate professional to lead behaviour and inclusion provision, supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) and sensory needs to thrive in a nurturing and ambitious environment.


The Role

As Behaviour Lead and Deputy DSL, you will:

  • Develop and implement effective behaviour and sensory support strategies to improve engagement and attendance.

  • Manage targeted intervention programmes and alternative timetables that enable pupils to make exceptional progress.

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage self-regulation and personal growth.

  • Lead on pastoral and safeguarding responsibilities, deputising for the DSL when required.

  • Work collaboratively with families, colleagues and external agencies to ensure the highest standards of care and support.

  • Contribute to whole-school culture, leading by example and promoting inclusion, equality and respect.

  • Line manage support staff, providing clear communication, training and mentoring.


About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in working with children and young people with SEMH or behavioural needs, ideally within a specialist or alternative provision.

  • Skilled in behaviour management, restorative practice and de-escalation techniques.

  • Confident in leading others and delivering CPD related to behaviour, inclusion and safeguarding.

  • A strong communicator with excellent emotional intelligence and resilience.

  • Deeply committed to safeguarding and improving life chances for all learners.

A Level 4 qualification (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline is essential, along with up-to-date safeguarding knowledge.
