Are you ready to drive departmental excellence and inspire colleagues and learners alike? MAT Recruitment is seeking a confident and effective Head of English for a permanent role in a well-regarded school in , starting from January or sooner!
This is a leadership position with significant responsibility for shaping the English curriculum, guiding a team of teachers, and ensuring every student reaches their full potential. You will be a key member of the middle leadership team, influencing policy and practice at a whole-school level.
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
Main Responsibilities:
Lead and inspire the English department to deliver consistently high-quality teaching and outstanding student outcomes across KS3–KS5.
Develop and implement a well-sequenced, ambitious curriculum that fosters a love of literature, language, and learning.
Monitor and evaluate teaching, learning, and assessment to ensure continuous improvement.
Use data analysis to track pupil progress, identify trends, and drive targeted interventions for improvement.
Support, coach, and develop members of the English team through effective line management and professional development.
Oversee curriculum planning, assessment strategies, and moderation processes in line with school and exam board requirements.
Lead departmental meetings and contribute to whole-school development priorities.
Manage departmental resources and budgets effectively to enhance teaching and learning.
