Job Description

MAT Recruitment is supporting the recruitment of a skilled and ambitious Chief Finance Officer to join a high-performing organisation. This is a strategic leadership position focused on overseeing financial operations and ensuring robust financial management across multiple settings.
As CFO, you will collaborate with school business managers, leadership teams, and the central team to ensure efficient financial practices and compliance with relevant policies and regulations. You will play a vital role in supporting organisational growth and achieving outcomes that benefit children and young people.

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a forward-thinking organisation, where innovation and collaboration are highly valued. The role will involve occasional travel between different locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of effective financial systems and procedures.
  • Provide specialist advice on financial policies and compliance.
  • Prepare, monitor, and manage multi-year budgets for central and local operations.
  • Oversee payroll reconciliations, audits, and external financial returns.
  • Collaborate with leadership teams to drive value-for-money initiatives and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, funding agreements, and organisational policies.

Requirements:

  • Recognised financial qualification (e.g., CIPFA, ACCA, ACA, CIMA, AAT) or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of two years in a senior finance role.
  • Experience within the public sector is mandatory; education sector experience is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of financial systems, policies, and multi-year budget planning.
  • Exceptional organisational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with financial software (e.g., SAGE Intacct) and proficiency in Excel.
