Job Description

Social Emotional Mental Health Lead (Fixed Term - 12 months)

MAT Recruitment are delighted to be working on behalf of a fantastic secondary school within the Salford Area. We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable SEMH Lead to join our school on a 12 month fixed term contract. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), with hands-on experience in the field. As a SEMH Lead, you will manage a dedicated team of three, providing guidance and ensuring effective service delivery. Your responsibilities will include developing individualised educational plans for students, addressing unique needs, and working closely with those exhibiting challenging behaviour and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. We seek a compassionate, patient individual who can be assertive when necessary to support students with complex needs. Join us in making a meaningful impact through dedicated leadership and care.

Join a high-performing, Catholic secondary school that prides itself on being safe, healthy and inclusive where pupils are happy to learn and staff are happy to work.

Our three-year trend of results puts us amongst the top-performing secondaries and in Salford and our mantra of ‘improving on previous best’ means we’re all about getting even better. We are an excellent school and you could be part of our journey to secure Inclusive Catholic Excellence. We don’t value Ofsted as much as the opinion of staff, pupils and parents and their feedback tells us that we are doing well. If Ofsted is what you judge us by please read the report, but we would rather you came and walked the corridors, spoke to pupils and staff and made up your own mind.

Every day we live out our Catholic mission to LoveLearn and Lead. We manage to be both inclusive and high achieving. What does this look like in practice for staff?

  • 100% of staff say they are valued, enjoy coming to work and are proud to work here
  • Staff attendance is high, we are fully staffed and the number of long-serving staff shows that people like to stay with us
  • You’re part of a great team, with strong CPD opportunities and a commitment to a work-life balance. Our lunchtime reading and research clubs for staff are very well attended.
  • We’re a welcoming place you’ll even have a laugh as you do your job. Staff who have joined recently have said that it has reinvigorated their love of teaching and they want to stay in the profession. No-one likes to leave our school: we believe on holding on to our staff and pupils.
  • We have a visible, proactive and supportive SLT. They’re out before and after school and during every break and lunch. They walk the corridors, teach and know the school, the children and the staff well. They hold the line on standards and value excellent communication. Staff wellbeing is a priority leaders’ doors are open and they listen.
  • Many of our staff live in the local community and choose to send their children to us we have a ‘family feel’.
  • We are inclusive, SEND-focused, trauma-informed and we have high expectations and standards. We don’t give up on children. Our outcomes and attendance for vulnerable pupils are above national averages for SEND and disadvantaged groups, but we’re not complacent and we won’t stop until we have achieved equity for all.
  • Our pupils are respectful, kind and committed this is a place where staff can teach and young people can learn in a calm environment.

If you’ve fallen out of love with teaching or working in schools we could well be where you rediscover your passion. If you’re new to the education professions, we’re the ideal place to develop your gifts and talents further.
