Job Description

MAT Recruitment is supporting a specialist SEMH setting in Rochdale to recruit an enthusiastic and compassionate Science Teacher on a permanent basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about making Science accessible, relevant and engaging for young people with social, emotional and mental health needs. You will help pupils rebuild confidence in learning and make meaningful academic and personal progress.

The role

As a Science Teacher, you will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated Science lessons across relevant key stages.
  • Adapt teaching and resources to meet a range of SEMH, SEND and behavioural needs.
  • Make learning practical, accessible and relevant to encourage pupil engagement.
  • Create a calm, structured and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Establish positive relationships, clear routines and high expectations for learning and behaviour.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, participation and progress.
  • Assess, monitor and record pupil progress, using this to inform future planning.
  • Work collaboratively with pastoral, SEND and safeguarding colleagues, as well as parents, carers and external professionals.
  • Follow all safeguarding, behaviour, attendance, health and safety and school procedures.

The successful candidate

You will ideally have:

  • QTS or a relevant teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching Science in a secondary, specialist or alternative provision setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to make Science engaging for a range of abilities.
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
  • A patient, resilient and inclusive approach.
  • The ability to motivate pupils who may have experienced barriers to learning or disengagement from mainstream education.

Experience in a specialist SEMH setting, alternative provision, PRU or behaviour provision would be advantageous. However, applications are welcomed from teachers with transferable experience and a genuine commitment to supporting young people with additional needs.
